Oman - Special Interest
Sinaw - Bedouin Souk and Jebal Akhdar |
|

|
Sinaw,
located north of the Wahiba Sands is in our opinion the most traditional
souk in all Oman. To create the mood for this visit we prefer
to camp outside the village so we get there early and enjoy the ambience.

Jebal Akhdar, known
locally as the "green mountain" is the highest point in Oman
at 2565 meters above sea level with its central plateau Soiq at 1795 meters.
Villages are perched perilously on the mountainside and walking along
the narrow tracks that link these hamlets one can see the full impact
of terraced cultivation, abundant flora & fauna, pomegranates, apricots,
peaches, walnuts,
almonds & grapes are just to name a few. Wadi Habib is renowned for its high quality miniature pink roses which for hundreds of years is boiled raw to produce condensation, a heritage that has been handed down for generations, the technique used is primitive but effective and a delight to watch during the spring harvest, the wonderful fragrance can be smelt all over the plateau we call it "Rose Water" The environment is virgin and unspoiled, is home to many existing wildlife that still live in the more remote regions of the Akhdar and only recently has the rare Arabian Leopard been spotted, for enthusiasts who love nature, walking or trekking then the Jebal Akhdar has all the ingredients of "Getting Away from It All" |
